The Department of Geography was established in 1972 with the aim of providing quality education and fostering academic excellence in geographical studies. Since its inception, the department has played a significant role in teaching Geography as an important academic discipline and in shaping the intellectual and professional growth of students.
Over the decades, the department has steadily progressed by updating its curriculum, adopting innovative teaching methods, and integrating contemporary developments in the field of Geography. The department offers a balanced and comprehensive approach to Physical Geography, Human Geography, and Applied Geography, enabling students to understand the complex relationship between nature and human society. Special emphasis is given to emerging and applied areas such as environmental studies, regional planning, population studies, geomorphology, resource management, and geospatial technologies including GIS and GPS.
The Department of Geography strongly believes in experiential and field-based learning. To enhance practical knowledge, the department regularly organizes field visits, surveys, educational tours, map interpretation exercises, project work, seminars, workshops, and guest lectures. These activities help students develop analytical skills, research aptitude, and a practical understanding of geographical concepts.
