The Department of English of Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj’s K.K. Wagh Arts, Science and Commerce College, Pimpalgaon (Baswant), Nashik, plays a vital role in imparting linguistic competence, literary appreciation, and critical thinking skills among students. The department strives to nurture students’ communicative abilities and intellectual growth through the study of English language and literature, keeping in mind both academic excellence and employability. The department of English offers undergraduate and post-graduate degree in English. The department values communicative skills, critical thinking, participation in creation of new ideas and knowledge among the students. The department gives importance to the communicative proficiency in English language because we believe that English is the international. The department is cantered on teaching quality, educational effectiveness and resource efficiency.
The faculty of English department attempts in the direction of enhancing students’ learning. This approach leads into positive results as far as academic research activities are concerned. The faculty of English department is deeply involved in the counselling of all the students especially the students of English literature and language. They receive individualized attention.
The innovative ideas are used while teaching literature such as teaching literature through film adaptation. It helps students to stimulate their imagination for better understanding of the prescribed novels or dramas and to unveil various shades of meaning. The department supports and practices assessment for example, weekly revision test. That allows teacher to assess how well the students understand the course material.
Various competitions such as poetry writing, essay writing, short story writing were conducted as a part of English department activities. Some of the students of our department enacted some scene from the drama Dolls House written by Henrik Ibsen. This facilitated discovery of hidden talents of the students.
